Brown Students Excited for BCA’s Spring Weekend Lineup

Several days ago, the Brown Concert Agency (BCA) released its lineup for Spring Weekend 2025. Here’s what you need to know:

The star of the show will be rising pop culture phenomenon Steve’s Seminoma, a four-man band most famous for their hit “We Are the MVPs,” the music video for which has over two hundred views on YouTube. Steve’s Seminoma is marked by a distinctly minimalistic style, fusing monotone rap with minimally edited vocal drones to create a unique and thrilling experience.

I asked students how they felt about Steve’s Seminoma and their pending arrival on campus:

“Is that even a real group?” Laila Foxcroft ’28 asked me. After showing her the music video for “We Are the MVPs” she changed her tune. “Wow,” she said, in a tone completely devoid of sarcasm, “they’re almost as good as the Brown Band!”

I asked what she was looking forward to the most about Spring Weekend, and she said, “probably the fact that the Main Green is going to be absolutely lit come concert day in April . . . if you know what I mean. We’ll manage to distract ourselves.”

Laila did not specify whether she would be distracting herself from the concert or from the stress of her midterms, but I could only assume the latter.

Laila is not the only one itching for Spring Weekend to finally arrive. Across campus, students have been contacting BCA non-stop pending the release of the artist lineup, attempting to cope with their excitement.

“BCA needs to hear this,” football star James Browning ’30 told me, furiously typing what I could only assume to be wild praise into BCA’s Instagram DMs. “I swear, that’s not even a real band.”

Laila and James were not the only ones who wondered if Steve’s Seminoma even existed in the first place. A recurring marketing issue seemed to be Steve’s Seminoma’s relative absence from the public spotlight. I decided to get in touch with BCA about this, and what they had to say was enlightening.

“We’re trying to reach students more directly than before,” an anonymous representative of BCA informed me. “We want to provide you with an example of someone who is, let’s say, in a similar place as you were as a freshman in high school, trying out new things to see what would be strange enough to get you admitted to a great school like Brown. It’s the sense of exploration and relatability that we think is most important and most inspiring.”

I must say, I agree with BCA here. I have witnessed them make huge gains toward inclusion and relatability. For example, last Spring Weekend featured Elyanna, who sang in Arabic. This was very relatable for my friend from the UAE, who started laughing hysterically. As someone who does not speak Arabic, I could not understand, but I found Elyanna’s musical style lush and engaging, especially regarding the instrumental backing tracks. The sonorities merged well with the cold, gray color palette of an unpleasant April afternoon.

I did leave as soon as Elyanna was done performing, so I am unable to speak to the depth and quality of the rest of the concert.

To conclude, as we all look forward eagerly to another inclusive, relatable, and inspirational Spring Weekend with Steve’s Seminoma (a band that definitely exists) and many other amazing performers, I would like to close out with a quote from my last interviewee, Derek Wang ’25.

“I’ve been to Spring Weekend three times now,” said Derek. “Each time I have learned the same valuable lesson and moved closer to prioritizing what matters in my life.”

I’m sure all Brown students will echo me in saying that Spring Weekend is worth prioritizing in our lives. See you on the green!
